Nokia N9 - Music Player

This is a short post reviewing the native music player on the Nokia N9. Personally, music player on smart phone is very important. Not only the sound quality produced has to be good, it needs to have settings, like equalizer, for me to alter the songs.

Summary of Likes and Dislikes

Likes
·         Fresh new look and layout of the user interface.
·         Like the mosaic layout of the album arts, something different from the iphone’s album art layout.
·         Able to sort the songs in array of ways, by artists, albums and songs etc
·         Shows the track playing right from the front page
·         Wonderful sound quality production, according to my ears
·         Onboard loud speaker performed well in an open out door environment, loud and clear

Dislikes
·         Lag of features like equalizer
·         As a matter of fact there are only 3 features/settings available.
1)            Favorite: For you to like the track
2)            Shuffle play
3)            Repeat whole album, don’t think there is repeat single track.

Right: Songs arranged by albums

Left: Currently playing, "Hair", display on front page
Right: Only 3 options and settings at bottom bar

Final Words

Given the fresh look and easy to navigate user interface, the music player can easily be a killer with wonderful sound reproduction and a very good onboard speaker. But the low score on settings and features of the player, or the lack of any settings, makes me choose other options of music players. Nokia could have push it up a notch by having stereo speakers onboard instead of single speaker. I hope in near future, Nokia can update this music player with all standard setting, like equalizer, then it can truly be perfect.
